Overview
What Is a
Dental Crown?
A dental crown is an outer reinforcing shell, custom-crafted to encase a tooth that has become structurally compromised. Think of it as armour for a vulnerable tooth — protecting it from fracture, restoring its shape, and giving it renewed strength.
Heavily restored teeth are susceptible to fracture. In the worst cases, a fracture can extend below the gum line or split a tooth in half — outcomes that frequently lead to extraction. A crown is placed to minimise that risk and preserve your natural tooth for as long as possible.
At Element Dental, crowns are crafted using premium European ceramics — E.Max by Ivoclar Vivadent — a material renowned for its exceptional strength, wear properties, and ability to recreate the look and feel of natural enamel.

Indications
When Is a Crown
the Right Choice?
Crowns are recommended when a tooth is no longer structurally sound enough to be reliably restored with a filling.
Heavily Restored Teeth
Teeth with large existing fillings have less natural structure remaining, making both the tooth and the filling more prone to fracture. Occasionally these fractures can be catastrophic — involving the nerve or root — and the tooth can become unrestorable. A crown provides full-coverage support, restoring the strength of the outer tooth structure before that point is reached.
After Root Canal Therapy
Root canal treated teeth tend to be heavily restored, structurally compromised, and undergo a reduction in sensation during biting — which can lead to excessive forces being placed on an already weakened tooth. A crown provides the protection they need to remain functional for years to come.
Fracture Lines
Not all fracture lines are cause for concern, but cracks in certain areas of the tooth are a warning sign that should not be ignored. A crown encases the tooth and prevents the crack from propagating further — potentially saving the tooth from a catastrophic split.
Cosmetic Improvement
When veneers aren't suitable due to bite forces or tooth positioning, a crown offers a durable alternative that simultaneously improves the tooth's appearance.
Our Craft
Prepared With
Precision.
At Element Dental, we take a conservative approach to crown preparation — a delicate balance between removing enough tooth structure to accommodate the crown material, while preserving as much core strength as possible.
Margin preparations are equally important. Where possible, we carefully conceal margins along the gum line to provide a natural, seamless appearance. Our crowns are crafted to blend harmoniously with the surrounding teeth in both colour and contour.
Our master ceramists work with materials such as lithium disilicate, zirconia, and gold. We most commonly use E.Max by Ivoclar Vivadent — a European ceramic with glass-like translucency that recreates the subtle depth and character of natural enamel.
The most natural crowns cannot be designed in a same day visit — for this reason every crown is individually crafted by a master ceramist, allowing for the kind of customised artistry and natural anatomy that produces results virtually indistinguishable from your own teeth. This level of detail requires time and skilled hands.
