Calm Starts
Here.

Dental anxiety is more common and more manageable than most are aware. At Element Dental, we believe that fear should never be a barrier to great oral health. Our team approaches anxious patients with patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make dentistry a positive experience.

We offer the full scope of sedation options — sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry — from oral sedation and nitrous oxide through to intravenous sedation and full general anaesthesia (specialist referral). Your dentist will guide you to the right option based on your specific needs, the treatment planned, and your personal preferences.

You don't need to suffer through a dental appointment. Let's talk about what's right for you.

The Sedation
Spectrum.

No two patients are alike. We offer four levels of sedation, so the approach can be tailored precisely to your level of anxiety and the complexity of your treatment.

01

Oral Sedation

A prescription sedative tablet taken before your appointment. You'll feel relaxed and drowsy, but remain awake and able to respond. Ideal for mild to moderate anxiety or longer procedures. A responsible adult must accompany you to and from the appointment.

Mild to Moderate Anxiety
02

Relative Analgesia (Nitrous Oxide)

Nitrous oxide — commonly known as happy gas — is inhaled through a small nosepiece during your appointment. It produces a calm, slightly euphoric feeling within minutes, wears off quickly, and allows you to drive home after treatment. A gentle and effective option for mild dental anxiety.

03

IV Sedation

Intravenous sedation is administered through a small cannula, producing a deep state of relaxation and partial consciousness. You are aware enough to respond but typically have little to no memory of the procedure. This option is available on specific days at our practice with a dental sedationist or anaesthetist in attendance.

Moderate to Significant Anxiety  ·  In-Chair
04

General Anaesthesia (GA)

For patients requiring full unconsciousness — whether due to severe anxiety, significant medical needs, or extensive treatment — we coordinate care in a hospital setting with our trusted maxillofacial surgeon. This is the deepest form of sleep dentistry available, allowing complex procedures to be completed safely and comfortably in a single session.

Your dentist will discuss every sedation option with you openly, help you understand what to expect, and together you'll decide what's right for your situation.

✦

Dedicated Sedation Days

IV sedation is available on specific days with a dedicated sedationist present — providing an additional layer of monitoring and safety throughout your procedure.

✦

Hospital-Coordinated GA

When general anaesthesia is the right choice, we provide a referral to our Maxillofacial surgeon who will assess your needs and coordinate every detail with the hospital so your experience is seamless and safe.
