Gum Sculpting
Symmetry.

Gum sculpting is a gum modification procedure aimed at improving smile symmetry and aesthetics. This treatment helps to:

  • Balance uneven gum margins
  • Reshape poorly defined gum margins
  • Lift a gum margin that is too low
  • Improve the proportions of teeth
  • Minimise a “Gummy Smile”

Each case is unique and one of our dentists can assess whether gum sculpting or gummy smile treatment is right for you.

Gum Sculpting
The Procedure.

The gum sculpt procedure is straightforward and performed under local anaesthetic. At Element Dental, we use a special method which results in minimal bleeding and a comfortable recovery.

It is an artistic process — we work closely with you to create a natural, precise, and balanced contour that complements your unique facial aesthetics.

Gum sculpting is typically assessed to be performed after orthodontic correction and before cosmetic dentistry, ensuring we are working with an optimal, symmetrical framework as the foundation for any further treatment.

Note: gum sculpting is an elective cosmetic procedure and is not considered medically necessary.

Gum sculpting is most effective when completed as part of a broader smile design plan. We recommend discussing your full smile goals at your consultation so we can sequence treatment in the order that delivers the best, longest-lasting result.

Treatment
Suitability.

Suitability for gum sculpting is assessed during a smile design treatment planning session. Our dentists take into account your overall periodontal health, bone levels, and long-term smile goals before recommending this treatment.

Treatment Considerations

Gum sculpting is not suitable for those with active gum disease, tooth mobility, or a receded gum line. Assessment and a thorough clinical examination form an essential part of the planning process. This consideration takes place during a smile design treatment planning session with one of our dentists.
